London City Lionesses captain Joel hoping for Princes Park celebrations this weekend

London City Lionesses captain Lois Joel is hoping for goal celebrations this weekend when The Pride take on Watford at Princes Park.

A new-look London City Lionesses side battled to a goalless draw at Sunderland on opening day. It was a more than acceptable result given the fact that the club had signed 13 new players over the summer.

This weekend sees The Pride face newly-promoted Watford at Princes Park. When speaking exclusively with FAWSL Full-Time, midfielder Joel said that she hopes to see goal celebrations from London City Lionesses this weekend.

“That’ll be a heavy focus for us this week; building up to creating more chances and scoring goals,” Joel said.

“Hopefully, there will be some celebrations at Princes Park this weekend.”

Watford sextet Harley Bennett, Poppy Wilson, Alli Palisch, Melis Mehmet, Annie Rossiter and Flo Fyfe all return to their former club this weekend but Joel doesn’t believe that this will add too much spice to the game.

She said “It’s always fun to play against girls that you’ve played with. It just adds another element (of excitement) to the game.

“Luckily, we have a brand new team so although they’ve played with a couple of us, they won’t really know what to expect from the rest of them.”

Four of the six Barclays Women’s Championship matches on opening weekend ended in draws. Joel believes that there is no such thing as an easy three points this year.

“You can tell from all of the scorelines that it is going to be a really tight league this year, not only at the top but at the bottom as well,” the midfielder said.

“There’s no opponent where you will think it’s an easy three points, every game will be a battle and we will have to earn the right to win.”

London City Lionesses’ latest Barclays Women’s Championship fixture against Watford kicks-off at 1pm on Sunday afternoon. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
