Former Brighton & Hove Albion and Lewes midfielder Josie Longhurst has joined Reading on a free transfer.
The Royals announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.
Longhurst joins The Royals off the back of a spell with the club’s Barclays Women’s Championship rivals Lewes. The midfielder spent 18 months with The Rooks in which she made 13 league appearances for the club. Longhurst featured in Lewes’ penalty shootout victory over Reading in the 2021/2022 FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup.
The player was formerly on the books of Barclays Women’s Super League club Brighton & Hove Albion, however, she struggled for first team opportunities with The Seagulls.
Longhurst becomes Reading manager Liam Gilbert’s third new signing since his arrival at the club last month. The Royals have now signed seven players in total in the summer transfer window. Longhurst could go straight into the squad for Reading’s Barclays Women’s Championship fixture against Charlton Athletic at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Saturday evening.
It is understood that Longhurst may not be the last arrival at Reading in the current transfer window. Manager Gilbert has confirmed that he is looking to do further business before the window closes later this month.
