Arsenal have announced the appointment of Renée Slegers as an assistant coach.
FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Gunners this morning.
The former Dutch international fills the assistant coach vacancy at Arsenal which was created following Lydia Bedford’s departure in the summer. Bedford opted to take up an opportunity with Brentford’s Under-18s men’s side following a short spell with The Gunners.
New assistant boss Slegers spent her youth with Arsenal before going on to represent Willem II, Djurgårdens IF and Linköping FC as a senior player. As a coach, Slegers has led both the FC Rosengård B Team and IF Limhamn Bunkeflo 07.
After re-joining Arsenal in a coaching capacity, Slegers said “It’s fantastic to be coming back to Arsenal as an assistant coach.
“I talked to Jonas (Eidevall) and he told me about the club and the ambitions here – and when you look at the squad and the facilities, it’s fantastic to be here. I’ve worked with Jonas before and I know what he’s looking to create here.
“I’m really excited to contribute and I can’t wait to get to work with the players and staff.”
Slegers will be in the Arsenal dugout for the first time when they face her former club Linköping this afternoon.
