Liverpool forward Stengel joins Gotham FC on a permanent deal

Liverpool forward Katie Stengel has joined National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club NY/NJ Gotham FC on a permanent deal.

The American club announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening.

Stengel joins NY/NJ Gotham FC on a permanent basis following a successful short-term loan with the club. She has signed on until summer 2025 while former club Liverpool have received an undisclosed fee for her services.

The forward spent more than 18 months with The Reds in which she netted 19 goals. Stengel was a promotion-winner with Liverpool in 2021/2022 while she helped the club to solidify their position in the top tier last season.

Stengel had a desire to return to the United States and she has now done that with NY/NJ Gotham FC.

After securing her permanent return to the NWSL, Stengel said “When I came to Gotham FC, I wanted to give everything I had to this temporary opportunity.

“I feel incredibly fortunate to continue at a club that is building the foundation of something special through professionalism and an exciting style of play.”

Liverpool have already gone a long way to filling the gap left by Stengel’s departure. The club signed Norwegian international attacker Sophie Roman Haug last week.
