Chelsea forward Watson joins Crystal Palace on loan

Chelsea forward Lucy Watson has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Crystal Palace on a season-long loan deal.

The Eagles announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening. Watson has also signed a one-year contract extension with parent club Chelsea ahead of the move.

Watson joined Chelsea last summer after opting to leave Sheffield United and she signed an initial two-year deal with the South West Londoners. The youngster was set to continue her development on loan at Charlton Athletic last season but she swiftly returned to parent club Chelsea after sustaining an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

The highly-rated forward is now back to fitness and she will be hoping to make up for lost time with Crystal Palace.

After securing her loan move to Crystal Palace, Watson said “I’m excited to get started. The setup here is incredible.

“It’s just been great, and I can’t wait to get involved with the girls because they’ve had a great start to the season.”

Watson adds further competition to a Crystal Palace forward line that are very much on top form. The Eagles defeated Durham 9-1 in their latest Barclays Women’s Championship fixture at the VBS Community Stadium last weekend. Forward Elise Hughes grabbed the headlines after she netted four goals in that match. Crystal Palace travel to the North East to face Sunderland on Sunday.
