Liverpool goalkeeper Faye Kirby has sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury whilst in action for loan club Aberdeen.
The Reds provided an injury update via a post on their official club website earlier today.
Kirby has been on loan at SWPL 1 club Aberdeen. She sustained her injury whilst playing for The Dons against Hibernian on Wednesday evening. Kirby had to be replaced in the 60th minute of the match at Meadowbank Stadium.
The player’s injury has now been assessed and it has been confirmed that she has ruptured her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). Kirby will not return to fitness before next summer.
Commenting on Kirby’s injury, Liverpool manager Matt Beard said “It’s disappointing. We’re gutted for Faye because she’s been playing well for Aberdeen.
“It was an innocuous challenge and her own player made contact with her so we’re desperately disappointed because she was excellent since she’s been here.
“She was looking really, really sharp and we were looking forward to seeing how the first six months at Aberdeen would help her kick on, playing week in, week out.
“We’ll rally around her, we’ll be there for her and support her to get her through the rehabilitation as quick as she can.”
Kirby will now return to Liverpool to begin her rehabilitation.
