Manchester United boss Skinner confirms ACL injury for defender George

Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner has confirmed the news that defender Gabby George has sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

Rumours of the injury surfaced late last night and Manchester United boss Skinner has now confirmed that George is set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow night’s UEFA Women’s Champions League fixture against Paris Saint-Germain, Skinner said “It’s an ACL. Of course, there are different degrees to ACLs. I think Gabby goes in today for an operation.

“There are different timeframes for different people but I’d always put 12 months on an ACL and then we can work back from that. If you put it too early, there’s a rush to get things back. If you put 12 months on and work backwards, I think that’s sensible.

“I’m making sure that Gabby is in a good space and that she feels loved and supported at this moment. It’s a horrific injury for a footballer.”

George only joined Manchester United from Everton in the summer transfer window. She has made four appearances for The Red Devils in all competitions this season and has generally impressed with her performances.

Manchester United will now continue their season without George as they look to secure qualification to the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage in Paris tomorrow night.
