Manchester City goalkeeper Sandy MacIver has switched her national team allegiance from England to Scotland.
The 25-year-old has represented the Lionesses at various youth levels in the past while she made her senior debut in a fixture against Northern Ireland in February 2021. The player was in contention to represent England at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 until she sustained a niggling injury in April and ruled herself out of selection for the tournament.
MacIver has today officially switched her allegiance from England to Scotland. The keeper qualifies to represent The Tartan Army as her mother was born north of the border. MacIver has received her first call-up from Scotland head coach Pedro Martínez Losa for this month’s UEFA Women’s Nations League double-header against The Netherlands. She will battle Jenna Fife and Lee Gibson for Scotland’s first-choice goalkeeping jersey.
Scotland boss Losa has named 10 English-based players in his squad. MacIver is joined in the squad by Jenna Clark, Rachel Corsie, Erin Cuthbert, Lisa Evans, Kirsty Hanson, Sophie Howard, Jamie-Lee Napier, Amy Rodgers and Martha Thomas.
Losa’s side travel to Nijmegen to face The Netherlands on Friday 27 October 2023 before playing host to the same opponents at Hampden Park on Tuesday 31 October 2023.
