Aston Villa one of the toughest away games for Spurs says Vilahamn

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Robert Vilahamn says that the trip to Aston Villa is one of the toughest in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

The Lilywhites travel to The Poundland Bescot Stadium to face The Villans tomorrow lunchtime.

Aston Villa have lost all three of their opening matches this season but Spurs boss Vilahamn says that he has huge respect for the Midlands club and he sees the fixture as one of the toughest in the league.

“You shouldn’t go by the table,” Vilahamn said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “They’re down there after some tough games and losing in the final minutes.

“They have some really talented players in their squad, so tomorrow is one of the toughest away games I would say. Even though they are near the bottom of the table, I have the utmost respect for that coach and the team that they have.

“It’ll be a really tough game and it is a good test for us to see if we can actually compete against them because they finished in fifth place last year. I have enormous respect for them.”

Both sides are known for their attractive styles of football and Vilahamn is looking forward to what could be a great spectacle.

He said “I like it when teams want to play because then you have a good game for the fans. It is also a good challenge for us to try and press them because they want to have the ball and they want to attack as well.

“Hopefully, it’ll be a game where it’s a battle over who dictates it. If you dictate it, you are going to be able to break through the lines and score goals. I want to have those games because they are the most fun and I really look forward to them.

“I think we go to Aston Villa with self-confidence. If we can use that from the beginning, we can try to dictate it. They’ve tried to defend well against some top teams, so it’ll be interesting to see how they play against us.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Aston Villa kicks-off at 12.30pm tomorrow afternoon.
