Leicester City ‘a force to be reckoned with’ says Manchester City boss Taylor

Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that latest opponents Leicester City are a force to be reckoned with this season.

The Cityzens face The Foxes at The King Power Stadium this evening in a top of the table clash. Both sides have taken seven points from an available nine so far with Manchester City having the better goal difference and holding pole position.

Leicester City have been transformed under the leadership of manager Willie Kirk. When speaking about The Foxes’ current league position in the pre-match press conference, Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor said that their form comes as no shock.

“I’m not surprised,” Taylor said. “I think I saw signs of this team in their performances under Willie (Kirk) at the back end of last season, I certainly saw a change.

“Since Willie took over, he has really put energy in the team, put quality into it and they’re a force to be reckoned with at the moment.

“It’s a game that we are looking forward to. We are pleased to be top of the league, we are enjoying the moment and we want to remain at the top.”

Manchester City went into the new season with a consistent line-up. Dutch international midfielder Jill Roord was the club’s only new signing over the summer. Taylor believes that the continuity is helping his side to thrive this season.

He said “I think it has (helped). It’s always a question of what is the best thing? Is it best to bring in an influx of players like we did last summer or have a settled squad?

“I’ve always looked to have a settled squad wherever I can but that’s tough; it’s tough to ensure that players are retained on longer contracts and looking at what could potentially help us. We certainly felt that was the case with Jill (Roord) and her early form has shown that’s the player that we brought to the club and that’s the reason why we brought her.

“Some people may have thought that it was a weakness that we hadn’t done much business but I saw it as a strength.”

Manchester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Leicester City kicks-off at 5.15pm this evening.
