PREVIEW: Aston Villa v Chelsea

Chelsea will be aiming to move to the top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table when they travel to The Poundland Bescot Stadium to face Aston Villa this afternoon.

The champions have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the campaign, recording three wins and a draw in their opening four matches. Emma Hayes’ side have given themselves an excellent platform to build on as they chase a fifth consecutive league title.

Aston Villa have endured a difficult start to the season which has seen them lose four matches out of four in the Barclays Women’s Super League. Head coach Carla Ward does have good squad availability ahead of her side’s latest match. Defender Lucy Parker is out as she nurses an ankle injury sustained during the international break but Kirsty Hanson is available following suspension and there could be a return for French midfielder Kenza Dali.

Chelsea manager Hayes remains without Melanie Leupolz and Guro Reiten who have longer term injuries. Catarina Macário is not yet in a position to make her debut while Czechia international midfielder Kateřina Svitková is unlikely to be seen before January.

The Barclays Women’s Super League fixture between Aston Villa and Chelsea kicks-off at 12.30pm. Tickets can be purchased at The Poundland Bescot Stadium this afternoon.
