Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that his team are well-prepared for the challenge of an aggressive Liverpool side.
The Cityzens travel to Prenton Park to face Liverpool in a FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup fixture on Wednesday night.
Manchester City boss Taylor expects Liverpool to come out, engage and offer little time on the ball but he knows that his side have the attacking players to really hurt The Reds.
“These types of games can be similar to the Leicester game where they came out very aggressive and gave you minimal time on the ball,” Taylor said when speaking in the pre-match press conference.
“Patience is ok but you also need to hurt teams when they want to play this aggressive and high up the pitch. I think we need to be mindful of where the spaces are going to be. We’ve got players who are capable of punishing that type of play.
“It’s good for us because we won our first game in the group. Liverpool didn’t win their game, so they will see this as an opportunity to strike back. We are really looking forward to the challenge and we are prepared for how they play.”
Taylor went on to discuss the job that Matt Beard is doing at Liverpool. The Manchester City boss said that The Reds play with Beard’s bravery.
He said “Matt has got a high level of experience at various clubs. He’s a good character to come up against and he is someone who likes to be brave.
“I’d say the same about Liverpool as I would about Leicester; they’re very brave in the way that they play, want to engage and put you under pressure. We need to be ready for that.”
Manchester City’s FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup fixture at Liverpool kicks-off at 7pm on Wednesday evening.
