Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall says that the club are keen for more success in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup.
The Gunners are the current trophy holders after defeating Chelsea 3-1 in last season’s final. Arsenal are the competition’s most successful club with six trophy wins so far.
When speaking to the media ahead of this season’s competition opener against Bristol City, Arsenal boss Eidevall said that his side are proud of their history and that they want to continue their success.
“Arsenal are the most successful women’s club in English football history,” Eidevall said. “We are very proud of our history.
“We want to compete in every competition, the Conti Cup is no different. We want to put on strong displays, strong performances and that hopefully puts us in a good position to qualify for the quarter-finals.”
Arsenal and Bristol City met in the Barclays Women’s Super League just last month. On that occasion, The Gunners ran out narrow 2-1 winners at Ashton Gate. Eidevall doesn’t expect anything too different from The Robins in the two sides’ latest meeting in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup.
He said “I expect them to be very well-organised and to play a defensive formation with a lot of pressing and intensity to it. I think they’re the team in the league that presses the most and we need to expect that again.
“We had the same expectations when we went to Bristol a couple of weeks ago. We know they’re a competitive side, so we need to be very good in our attacking play, in our position and in our decision-making in order to create the situations that we want.”
Arsenal’s FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup fixture against Bristol City takes place at the Mangata Pay UK Stadium at 7pm tomorrow night. Tickets remain available and can be purchased by clicking here.
