The FA Board have approved a proposal to double the Women’s FA Cup prize fund with effect from the 2023/2024 season.
WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official press release from The Football Association this morning.
It has been reported that the new agreement will see a significant increase in prize money for clubs competing from the Third Round Proper onwards. The move comes off the back of significant increases to earlier round prize money last season.
Third round winners will receive £35,000, an increase of £22,500 from last season. Semi-final winners will net £160,000, a figure that has jumped from £62,500, while the overall competition winners will receive £430,000 compared to £100,000 last season.
In total, the Women’s FA Cup prize fund has been increased from £2,970,250 to £5,994,000 this season.
Speaking following the announcement, Baroness Sue Campbell, The FA’s Director of Women’s Football, said “Doubling the prize money showcases The FA’s clear commitment to the future of the Women’s FA Cup and will help us maintain its stature as the most prestigious domestic women’s cup competition in the world. That’s why we’re delighted to be making a second successive increase to the prize fund, ensuring that as clubs progress through the competition, they receive financial rewards that will empower them to invest in their own futures.
“Ultimately, we want the women’s competition to receive the same prize money as the men’s, and this new increase is a positive step in the direction of achieving that long-term ambition.”
This season’s Women’s FA Cup final is scheduled to take place on the weekend of 11/12 May 2024. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by clicking here.
