United States announce Chelsea boss Hayes as new head coach

The United States have officially announced the news that Chelsea manager Emma Hayes will become their new head coach.

WSL Full-Time were notified of the appointment via an official press release from US Soccer this evening. It has been reported that Hayes will become the highest paid women’s football coach in the world.

Hayes will see out the remainder of the current season with Chelsea before taking up her new role with the United States next summer ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games. The 47-year-old fills the vacancy left by Vlatko Andonovski’s departure off the back of the United States’ disastrous FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign.

Speaking after her appointment was announced, Hayes said “This is a huge honour to be given the opportunity to coach the most incredible team in world football history. The feelings and connection I have for this team and for this country run deep. I’ve dreamed about coaching the USA for a long time so to get this opportunity is a dream come true.

“I know there is work to do to achieve our goals of winning consistently at the highest levels. To get there, it will require dedication, devotion and collaboration from the players, staff and everyone at the U.S. Soccer Federation.”

Hayes is currently in Spain with Chelsea as they prepare to begin their 2023/2024 UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign with a fixture against Real Madrid tomorrow night.
