Chelsea kick-off their latest UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign this evening when they face Spanish giants Real Madrid at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.
The Blues continue to chase the one missing piece of silverware from their trophy cabinet. Manager Emma Hayes has one last opportunity to win the competition before she leaves the club for the United States Women’s National Team head coach job next summer.
Chelsea’s latest opponents Real Madrid are in good form in the finetwork Liga F, they trail league leaders FC Barcelona by just three points after winning seven of their opening eight matches. Head coach Alberto Toril will again be without the services of long-term absentees Caroline Weir and Carla Camacho for his side’s latest match. Toril is not thought to have any fresh injury concerns to contend with.
There are also no new injury problems for Chelsea manager Hayes ahead of the trip to Spain. Melanie Leupolz and Guro Reiten remain sidelined, as does Kateřina Svitková who is out for the longer-term. Summer signing Catarina Macário is not yet in a position to make her debut.
Chelsea’s UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage fixture at Real Madrid is scheduled to kick-off at 8pm this evening.
