‘We’ve got to keep being us’ – Leicester City won’t change for Chelsea says Kirk

Leicester City head coach Willie Kirk says that it is important that his side are themselves when they face Chelsea this afternoon.

The Foxes travel to Kingsmeadow to face the Barclays Women’s Super League champions in their latest fixture.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Leicester City boss Kirk said that he wants his side to go into the match with their own strong identity and that there will be no change to the outlook for Chelsea.

“We’ve got to keep being us,” Kirk said. “We had a discussion before the game on Wednesday about what being us looks like. We’ve let that slip a couple of times this season which has probably culminated in the poorer performances. When we have been us, there has been a consistency about our performances.

“I slightly changed it for the Man United game and it backfired because we were really poor in the first half. When we made the alterations are half time, we went back to being us and got a positive result.

“I don’t think we can [change the style], I don’t think the players would let us and that’s a good thing. We are being held accountable for our identity and we need to keep doing that as much as possible.”

Kirk went on to say that he has not put too much focus into his analysis of Chelsea given their plethora of world-class talent. His main focus has been on Leicester City.

He said “I don’t really look at Chelsea tactically because they’re the best team in the country. They’re the best team in the country because they win in so many different ways. They can build from the back, they can go direct, they can high press and they can low block. Emma [Hayes] and her squad have got everything under the sun in terms of ways to win games.

“It’d be pointless looking at Chelsea tactically, we’ve just got to focus on us.”

Leicester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Chelsea at Kingsmeadow kicks-off at 2pm this afternoon.
