Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that his side’s full focus is on closing the gap between themselves and Barclays Women’s Super League leaders Chelsea.
The Cityzens go into this evening’s fixture against Tottenham Hotspur at The Academy Stadium six points adrift of the league summit with 15 games to play.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Manchester City boss Taylor said that his side are fully-focused on the task of hunting Chelsea down in the title race.
“We are just trying to accumulate as many points as possible,” Taylor said. “It’s a different feeling when you’re at the top and the rest are chasing you. We are just looking to close that gap on Chelsea.
“When you look at their start, you have to take your hat off to them really, they’ve only dropped two points which was against us. That shows why they’re champions; they are ruthless and relentless at what they do. They’re the team to chase, there’s no doubt.”
This evening’s opponents Tottenham Hotspur have impressed so far this season under the guidance of new head coach Robert Vilahamn. The Lilywhites arrive in Manchester on an eight-match unbeaten streak. Taylor acknowledged the fact that Spurs are a team on the up.
He said “He’s a new coach [to the league] and they have quite a few new players as well. They’re adapting to a few little things and processes that they work to. In general, they’ve drew a few games and lost the opening game to Chelsea but they’ve put a few wins on the board as well.
“They’ve taken a step forward in this short period, particularly in terms of results. You never know what happens behind-the-scenes, maybe they’ve taken a step forward off the pitch as well. It’s a big club Spurs and rightly so that they should try and get the very best for their women’s team as well.”
