Arsenal ‘very disappointed’ with North London Derby defeat says Eidevall

Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall was left frustrated after his side lacked conviction in a 1-0 defeat to North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.

Despite having 31 shots on goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Arsenal failed to grasp the opportunity to climb to the top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table.

When speaking in the post-match press conference, Arsenal boss Eidevall was frustrated, although he believed that the result wasn’t worthy of the performance.

“I think the most important aspect in performance is what you create offensively compared to what you allow the opposition to create,” Eidevall said. “Those things are strong in this game and the most likely outcome in a football match like this is that Arsenal will win, that will happen in 90 percent of the games that you play, and that’s a fact.

“Of course, we need to improve the efficiency, both attacking and defending, but it can’t take away from the performance in total that most of the time, we are going to win this football match. We need to keep building those things that lead to those moments.”

Despite falling to a 1-0 defeat in N17, Arsenal were not short of chances. The Gunners created an abundance of opportunities to find the back of the net, as two headed attempts by Alessia Russo were sent wide, as well as Caitlin Foord’s effort from range being denied by the woodwork. At the other end, Martha Thomas stuck the ball away from one of just three Spurs shots on target.

“Of course, I’m very disappointed with the result, disappointed with our efficiency,” Eidevall said.

“There was one time that they played their way through the press in 90 minutes plus added time, and we got very harshly punished by that.”

A victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this afternoon would have seen The Gunners take top spot in the league table, however, they will go into the Christmas break in either second or third position.
