United States international midfielder Kristie Mewis has officially agreed to join West Ham United in the January transfer window.
WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Hammers this evening.
Mewis joins West Ham United following a spell playing in America with National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club NJ/NY Gotham FC. She won the 2023 NWSL Championship with that team. The 32-year-old counts the likes of Boston Breakers, Washington Spirit, Chicago Red Stars and Houston Dash amongst her former clubs.
On the international stage, Mewis has been capped by the United States on 53 occasions while she has scored seven goals.
After signing with West Ham United, Mewis said “I am delighted to be joining West Ham United. I have always wanted to play in the Women’s Super League and now that everything has fallen into place, it feels like a dream come true.
“When I visited London for the first time, I went to my first football match at Upton Park. The culture and energy of West Ham captivated me straight away and nothing has ever lived up to that moment – it was one of the happiest days of my life.
“It feels like I have come a full circle from that moment and it’s incredible to now be officially part of the West Ham family. I will work hard, try to lead by example and give everything for this badge.”
West Ham United return to action following the Christmas break when they travel to Chelsea for an Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie on Sunday 14 January 2023.
