Bristol City’s teenage defender Mari Ward has signed her first professional contract with the club.
The Robins announced the news this afternoon via a post on their official club website.
The 18-year-old full-back first forced her way into Bristol City’s senior squad last season. She made seven league appearances for the club as they won the 2022/2023 Barclays Women’s Championship title, along with promotion back to the top flight. The youngster has remained an important member of the team this season. Ward has been introduced from the bench in nine Barclays Women’s Super League matches.
The player has a big future ahead of her and she will now continue her development on a professional basis with Bristol City.
After signing her first professional terms with The Robins, Ward said “I’m delighted to have signed my first professional contract. I’ve gained so much experience over the last year and I’m excited to continue my development with this club.
“We’ve got a big second half of the season to come and I’m looking forward to that challenge and beyond.”
Bristol City return to action following the Christmas break with an Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Liverpool at Ashton Gate on Sunday 14 January 2024.
