Blackburn Rovers loanee Ferguson recalled by Brighton

Blackburn Rovers loanee Chelsea Ferguson has been recalled by parent club Brighton & Hove Albion ahead of schedule.

The Seagulls announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

The teenager joined Blackburn Rovers on a season-long loan arrangement back in early September. Ferguson has made five appearances for the Lancashire club in all competitions, however, she has often found herself named amongst the substitutes. The player has now been recalled by parent club Brighton & Hove Albion ahead of the second half of the season.

Ferguson joined Brighton & Hove Albion at Under-16 level. She has successfully progressed through the age groups and now finds herself on the fringes of the senior team. Ferguson made her senior debut for Brighton & Hove Albion in last season’s 4-0 defeat at Arsenal in the Barclays Women’s Super League. The player does need more game time at senior level to push for a first team shirt on a regular basis.

Given the competition for places in Melissa Phillips’ Brighton & Hove Albion squad this season, the next step in Ferguson’s career is not yet known. Another loan in the second half of the season may be a possibility given the player’s need for regular football.
