Birmingham City forward Jade Pennock will be sidelined for up to 12 weeks with a hamstring injury which she sustained before the Christmas break.
The Blues provided a fitness update for the player via a post on their official club website this evening.
It has been revealed that Pennock sustained her injury in Birmingham City’s 3-0 victory over Sunderland at The Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground in mid-December. The forward will now spend up to 12 weeks in rehabilitation.
News of Pennock’s lengthy injury is a blow to Birmingham City’s promotion hopes. The player was the club’s top scorer in the Barclays Women’s Championship last season with 11 goals in 22 games. Pennock has netted just once in the league this season but her experience is a real asset for the team.
Birmingham City will start the second half of the season top of the Barclays Women’s Championship table. The Blues are the second-highest goalscorers in the league this term. With The Blues now being a striker short for the majority of the second half of the campaign, head coach Darren Carter will have to make a call on whether to recruit another attacker in this month’s transfer window.
Birmingham City return to action with an Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Burnley on Sunday afternoon.
