Reading have announced the news that Danish international attacker Sanne Troelsgaard Nielsen has left the club by mutual consent.
The Royals confirmed the player’s departure via a post on their official club website this morning.
Troelsgaard has spent the last two years with Reading. She helped the club to retain their top tier status in 2021/2022 before being a member of the side that were relegated last season. The attacker remained with The Royals into this season and she has helped the club stabilise in the Barclays Women’s Championship.
With Reading transitioning towards a part-time operating model, Troelsgaard has determined it to be the right time to move on. The Dane leaves The Select Car Leasing Stadium having made 53 appearances in a Reading shirt in which she scored eight goals. The 35-year-old’s next career move is not yet known.
Troelsgaard featured in eight of Reading’s Barclays Women’s Super League matches in the first half of the season and her departure is a blow for manager Liam Gilbert. Should the budget be available, Gilbert could opt to make a move in this month’s transfer window to fill the void left by the player’s exit.
Four players have now either left Reading on a temporary or permanent basis this month.
