Bristol City have announced the news that goalkeeper Benedicte Haaland has left the club upon the expiry of her contract.
The Robins confirmed the player’s departure via a post on their official club website this afternoon.
Haaland joined Bristol City on a short-term deal in November. She was brought in to cover for on-loan Arsenal goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese who sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury. Haaland made three appearances for Bristol City during her short-time with the club. The player has now had two separate spells at Ashton Gate, she first spent a period with Bristol City during the 2020/2021 season.
Bristol City head coach Lauren Smith recently added former London City Lionesses goalkeeper Shae Yanez to her squad. Smith confirmed that discussions were taking place with Haaland to determine what was best for the next step of her development and the decision has now been made to part ways.
Despite the departures of both Marckese and Haaland, Bristol City have plenty of goalkeeping competition. Yanez and Olivia Clark are both currently fighting for the first-choice jersey while Fran Bentley is continuing to build her fitness following injury.
Bristol City are next in action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Brighton & Hove Albion.
