Liverpool manager Matt Beard says that latest opponents Manchester City have been the best team in the Barclays Women’s Super League this season.
The Reds travel to The Academy Stadium on Sunday afternoon to take on The Cityzens in their first league fixture of 2024.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Liverpool boss Beard praised his side’s latest opponents for their efforts in the first half of the season.
“I’ve been impressed with them,” Beard said. “They had a big turnaround of players last year and you could see that in their performances in the first half of the season but I think they’ve probably been the best team this year in the league.
“It’ll definitely be a tough challenge but our games against Manchester City have been competitive and they’ve been exciting for the neutral. We are looking forward to the test on Sunday and I’m sure it’ll be another exciting game.”
Manchester City have lost just one of their last 24 home fixtures in the Barclays Women’s Super League but Beard says that his side won’t change their own way of playing to contain The Cityzens.
He said “We will try and set up to win the game as we always do. Brighton have won there this year, albeit Manchester City had an off-day in front of goal.
“We’ve performed well away from home. Even in the Chelsea defeat, I don’t think it was a bad performance from us. We’ve learnt from that performance, we made some silly errors which cost us and we got punished by a top side.”
Liverpool’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Manchester City kicks-off at 2.30pm on Sunday afternoon.
