Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall has hailed the club’s ever-growing fanbase ahead of this weekend’s trip to Liverpool.
The Gunners are by far the best supported club in the Barclays Women’s Super League and the fans’ efforts never go unnoticed by head coach Eidevall.
When speaking to the media ahead of this weekend’s trip to Liverpool, Eidevall commented on the growth of the club’s fanbase and what it means to the team.
“It means a lot,” Eidevall said. “What makes us unique is our supporters. It’s how they fill the Emirates, it’s how they travel in numbers.
“On Wednesday night in the Conti Cup against Reading, all I saw was red and white and all I heard was Gooners. It’s incredible and when I think about what it was like two-and-a-half years ago to where we are now, there’s been incredible movement.
“It’s such a huge part of what we are trying to build here and let’s hope that this is only the beginning and it continues. Usually, it should do that. Once a snowball starts rolling, it goes faster and faster and collects more snow so hopefully, we are building something big.”
Arsenal’s latest opponents Liverpool were thumped 5-1 at Manchester City in their last match and Eidevall expects the Merseyside club to come out fighting this weekend.
He said “Liverpool are a very capable team. They obviously didn’t have their strongest performance in their last game against Manchester City and they’ll be out to correct that against us.
“They’re very aggressive in their pressing, they go player-for-player and you need to be able to deal with that intensity as well which is a challenge but we are up for it.”
Arsenal’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Liverpool kicks-off at 4.30pm on Sunday afternoon.
