Chelsea continue unbeaten run in Europe with victory over Paris FC

Chelsea have remained unbeaten in the group stage of this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League after recording a 4-0 victory over Paris FC at the Stade Charlety this evening.

Fran Kirby and Mia Fishel netted in the first half before Guro Reiten and Maren Mjelde found the back of the net for The Blues in the second period.

After a quiet opening, Chelsea got off to a dream start when Kirby headed home the opener from close range. The Blues then almost made it 2-0 but Aggie Beever-Jones was denied by a sliding tackle from Julie Soyer.

At the other end, Gaëtane Thiney struck a shot narrowly over the bar before Mathilde Bourdieu was denied by Chelsea keeper Zećira Mušović.

Chelsea doubled their lead just before half-time when Jelena Čanković’s cross was headed home by Fishel, although home keeper Chiamaka Nnadozie will feel that she should’ve kept the ball out of the net.

Paris FC were better after the break without severely testing Mušović in the Chelsea goal. Julie Dufour was presented with a particularly good chance just after the restart but she fired over the bar.

Chelsea extended their lead in the 74th minute when some hesitancy in the Paris FC defence allowed Reiten to slot the ball home. The Blues then netted a fourth goal with a Mjelde flick from a corner to cap-off a dominant performance in the French capital.

Chelsea end the group stage as group winners. They will now be seeded in next week’s quarter-final draw.
