Aston Villa forward Daly issued with three-match ban

Aston Villa forward Rachel Daly has been issued with a three-match suspension following an incident which occurred during Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Bristol City at The Poundland Bescot Stadium.

The England international forward caught Bristol City defender Megan Connolly with an elbow as a shot was taken in the visitors’ box six minutes before half-time. The incident was missed by the officials but The Football Association have opted to take their own action following a video review.

Following the conclusion of their review, The Football Association issued a statement which read:

‘Rachel Daly has been suspended for three matches following Aston Villa Women’s game against Bristol City Women in the Women’s Super League on Saturday 3 February.

Her behaviour during the 39th minute wasn’t seen by the match officials at the time, but it was caught on camera, and The FA alleged that it constitutes violent conduct.

Rachel Daly subsequently admitted this charge and accepted the automatic penalty for violent conduct.’

It has been reported that Daly’s ban will come into force immediately therefore she will be unavailable for selection when Aston Villa travel to Brighton & Hove Albion for a FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup quarter-final tie this evening. She will also miss the upcoming Barclays Women’s Super League fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
