Arsenal boss Eidevall expects Manchester City tie to be a game of small margins

Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall expects this weekend’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Manchester City to be a very tight affair.

Both clubs are fancied to go far in this season’s competition, however, one will fall this weekend with the pair having been drawn together in just the fifth round.

Arsenal were 2-1 winners in a Barclays Women’s Super League encounter at Meadow Park before Christmas and Eidevall anticipates another close encounter with Manchester City this weekend.

“It’s going to be a game decided by small margins,” Eidevall said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “The thing in football is you never know what moment is going to provide a small margin and that’s what makes it such an intriguing and fascinating game.

“If you knew which second to switch on then it would be easy, but there are hundreds of potential situations that can be game-deciding and you need to treat each one of them that way otherwise you’re not doing the utmost of the things you can control in order to get the result. That’s the challenge and the team that’s going to do that best I think is going to win.”

Despite Arsenal being the Adobe Women’s FA Cup’s most successful club, The Gunners have not lifted the trophy since 2016. Eidevall highlighted the importance of doing well in this season’s competition.

He said “It’s very important, we’re super-motivated. We would love to go to Wembley and play the final but we have a challenging, interesting and exciting game against Manchester City that we first need to focus on.”

Arsenal’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Manchester City is scheduled to kick-off at 12.30pm on Sunday afternoon. The Meadow Park clash is a sell-out.
