Everton’s teenage midfielder Abby Clarke has joined FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division club Burnley on a permanent deal.
The Blue Girls announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website this morning.
Clarke came through the academy system at Everton and she was handed her first senior minutes for the club last season. The youngster featured twice for the Merseyside club in 2022/2023. Clarke has featured in Everton manager Brian Sørensen’s squad just once this term and she has now opted to move to Burnley, a club which she supports, to get regular football.
After joining The Clarettes, Clarke told the club’s official media team “I’ve got a lot of memories supporting the Club – I remember getting a shirt every year from the age of four right through until 15.
“With the backing that has been put into the women’s game here, there has been a clear progression and I think it will continue to grow and grow, so it’s a good place to be.
“I’m familiar with some of the players here, I’ve played Futsal with Leah Embley before and I know Aimee Kelly and Lucy Walsh from the Everton Academy.
“Hopefully, I can get out on the pitch and enjoy playing football as soon as possible.”
Clarke could make her Burnley debut in the fixture against Newcastle United on Sunday.
