Brighton full-back Pattinson hit with three-match ban

Brighton & Hove Albion full-back Poppy Pattinson has been issued with a three-match ban following an incident which occurred in the fixture against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Football Association announced news of the player’s suspension this afternoon following a video review.

Pattinson appeared to stand on the upper leg of Liverpool forward Sophie Román Haug directly in front of the linesman, however, the incident was not seen. Following a review of the match footage, it has been determined that Pattinson did commit an offence and she will now miss her side’s next three matches.

In response to the incident, a statement from The Football Association read: “Brighton & Hove Albion Women’s Poppy Pattinson has been suspended for three matches following their Women’s Super League game against Liverpool Women on
Sunday, 18 February.

“The defender’s behaviour in the 96th minute wasn’t seen by the match officials at the time, but it was caught on video, and The FA alleged that it constitutes violent conduct.

“Poppy Pattinson subsequently admitted this charge against her and also accepted the automatic three-match suspension.

Pattinson will now miss the upcoming Barclays Women’s Super League fixtures against Bristol City and Manchester City, along with the Adobe Women’s FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester United.
