Arsenal attacker Vivianne Miedema will be sidelined for several weeks with the player requiring minor knee surgery.
Head coach Jonas Eidevall provided an update on the Dutch international’s fitness in an Arsenal press conference this morning.
Miedema was away with the Dutch national team during the latest international window. She featured in the game against Spain before withdrawing from the squad and returning to Arsenal.
When speaking to the media this morning, Arsenal boss Eidevall confirmed that Miedema faces several weeks on the sidelines.
“She requires minor knee surgery and that will see her out of action for several weeks,” Eidevall said. “We will have an update on that after the surgery and when we see how she is progressing.”
Going on to discuss the injury further, Eidevall indicated that Miedema’s injury was a concern prior to the international break.
He said “She doesn’t need the surgery because of those 45 minutes that she played [for The Netherlands] against Spain, she would have needed surgery for it anyway.
“It was nothing that the Dutch team did that has made the situation worse, it was a situation that needed to be fixed anyway.”
Arsenal are next in action on Sunday afternoon when they face Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium.
