Aston Villa goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on a hip injury.
WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Villans this afternoon.
Van Domselaar sustained the injury prior to Aston Villa’s FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup semi-final fixture against Arsenal earlier this month. The Dutch international’s injury was recently reviewed by a specialist and she has now undergone surgery, ruling her out of action until next season.
Aston Villa signed Van Domselaar from FC Twente last summer and the player agreed a three-year deal with the Midlands club. The keeper has gone on to make 14 appearances for The Villans in the Barclays Women’s Super League in which she has kept two clean sheets. With Van Domselaar now sidelined for the remainder of the season, Anna Leat is likely to continue her place in goal.
It remains to be seen whether Van Domselaar has played her last game for Aston Villa. The player is thought to be on Arsenal’s radar ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window. It is believed that The Gunners would have to table a significant six-figure fee to release Van Domselaar from her contract at Aston Villa.
