Durham re-sign defender Christon

Durham have re-signed former defender Ellie Christon on a short-term deal.

The Wildcats announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Christon returns to Durham less than 12 months after leaving the club to pursue a new opportunity. She has reclaimed the number 16 shirt upon her arrival back at Maiden Castle.

The defender is the third-highest appearance maker for Durham having taken to the field on 189 occasions in all competitions to date. Only Beth Hepple and Sarah Wilson have greater appearance tallies than Christon. The player has featured for The Wildcats in every season since the club’s formation in 2014.

Christon will be hoping to play an important role for Durham in the coming weeks as the club look to confirm their place in the Barclays Women’s Championship in 2024/2025.

After rejoining Durham, Christon said “It’s been a challenging year with injury and moving away, but being back feels really comforting.

“It’s an exciting time to be here. The league is really competitive and tight at both ends, so it’s good to be back part of it.

“I just want to get as many minutes as I can and help the team in any way.”

Christon could make her second Durham debut when The Wildcats contest the A690 derby with Sunderland at The Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground on Sunday afternoon.
