Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that latest opponents Manchester United will provide a really tough test for his side despite their challenging season so far.
The Blue Girls travel to the Leigh Sports Village to take on The Red Devils on Sunday afternoon.
The reverse fixture back in October saw Everton lose 5-0. Manchester United have had an inconsistent season and are battling for fourth place but Everton boss Sørensen still sees facing The Red Devils as a major challenge.
“I think last year, they almost didn’t have any injuries, played the same starting XI so many times and that consistently brought them a really long way,” Sørensen said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “This season, of course there are new faces but I still think the quality of the players they have available is really great.
“I haven’t seen all the games but this season has been a bit more inconsistent. You only have so much quality in the team but that is a really tough opponent.”
Everton are the lowest scorers in the Barclays Women’s Super League after netting just 14 goals in 17 games. Sørensen believes that the reason why his side haven’t scored that many goals this season is down to the players’ confidence and the fact that the team have had an inconsistent starting XI.
He said “It’s a lot to do with confidence in the team. There’s been so much change in the team it’s been hard to get going and get the flow but also, purely unlucky. There are many more goals in our team. You can say it’s being in the right moment, there are just moments where we’re not taking our chances. Compared to last season, we are getting into much more situations, so it’s just about finishing off basically and I think it’s a confidence thing.”
Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Manchester United kicks-off at 12pm on Sunday afternoon.
