Vice-captain Rowbotham signs professional deal with Portsmouth

Portsmouth midfielder Ava Rowbotham has signed a new one-year professional contract with the club.

Pompey announced their latest professional deal this afternoon via a post on their official club website.

Rowbotham has signed professional terms with Portsmouth following a successful stint as vice-captain. The midfielder played her part in helping Pompey to win the 2023/2024 FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division title and promotion to the Barclays Women’s Championship.

Rowbotham joined Pompey in 2020 after turning out for former Barclays Women’s Championship club Lewes. She has gone on to make 106 appearances for the Hampshire club in all competitions, scoring 18 goals.

The player will be hoping for a successful return to Barclays Women’s Championship football this season with Portsmouth.

After retaining Rowbotham’s services on a professional basis, Portsmouth boss Jay Sadler said “We’re delighted to have Ava with us next season. She has been an integral part of this team’s recent success.

“Not only on the pitch, but off it she is a model professional to have within the squad and has demonstrated real leadership qualities.”

Rowbotham is the 13th player to have agreed on professional terms with Portsmouth. She joins teammates Hannah Haughton, Riva Casley, Georgie Freeland, Jazz Younger, Sophie Quirk, Emily Pitman, Annie Rolf, Ella Humphrey, Izzy Collins, Scarlett Williams, Nicole Barrett and Emma Jones in going full-time with Portsmouth ahead of the 2024/2025 Barclays Women’s Championship campaign.
