Former Charlton Athletic forward Rutherford joins Ipswich Town

Former Charlton Athletic forward Ella Rutherford has joined FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division club Ipswich Town on a free transfer.

The Tractor Girls announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

The 24-year-old joins Ipswich Town after leaving former club Charlton Athletic earlier this summer. Rutherford has signed a one-year deal with the Suffolk side.

Rutherford spent four years with Charlton Athletic. She made 41 appearances for the South East Londoners in the Barclays Women’s Championship in which she scored five goals. The player has a wealth of experience in the elite game after also turning out for Millwall Lionesses, Bristol City, Crystal Palace and Leicester City in her professional career to date.

Rutherford has had her fair share of bad luck with injuries but she will be hoping for a successful spell in the third tier with new club Ipswich Town.

After bringing Rutherford to Ipswich Town, the club’s manager, Joe Sheehan said “Ella’s played in the Super League and Championship and is a clever, attacking midfielder who is really creative and can bring good energy to the group.

“She has good experience and has also represented England at various youth levels, so she is a player we’re all looking forward to working with.
