Aston Villa keeper Poor signs first professional deal

Aston Villa goalkeeper Sophia Poor has signed her first professional contract with the club.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Villans this afternoon.

Poor joined Aston Villa from Leicester City for the 2023/2024 season and she quickly forced her way into the first team environment. The teenager made her senior debut for The Villans as a substitute in the club’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at Kingsmeadow. Poor made a further appearance as Aston Villa drew 1-1 with West Ham United at Villa Park.

The keeper has a huge future ahead of her and she will continue her development with Aston Villa after signing her first professional deal with the club.

After retaining Poor’s services on a professional basis, Aston Villa’s head of women’s football, Lee Billiard said “We’re really pleased to be the club signing Sophia to her first professional contract.

“She stepped into first-team action last season when required and performed very well. She handled herself excellently and we have seen nothing but positive progression from her.

“Sophia is a big talent at a young age and we believe she can cope with being part of the first team environment. We hope signing Sophia shows our continued commitment as a club to ensure there is a successful pathway from Academy to first team.”

Poor is the sixth player to sign a new contract with Aston Villa so far this summer.
