Bristol City captain Megan Connolly has announced the news that she is leaving the club this summer.
The 27-year-old Republic of Ireland international midfielder took to her personal Instagram account to announce her Ashton Gate exit this afternoon.
Connolly joined Bristol City last summer after leaving Brighton & Hove Albion and she was quickly handed the captain’s armband. The player was an ever-present for The Robins in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
With Bristol City now set for Barclays Women’s Championship football this season, the player has deemed it to be the right time to move on.
Announcing her Bristol City departure, Connolly said “It has been a pleasure to play for Bristol City this past year. It was always a dream of mine to captain a team in the WSL and I was privileged to carry that honour this past season. I can’t speak highly enough of the group of players I was able to step onto the pitch with week in, week out.
“Thank you to Lauren [Smith] and all the staff for all you have done for me this past year.
“Finally, thank you to all the fans for the continuous support and setting record attendances. All the best to staff and players for the upcoming coming season.”
Eight players have now left Bristol City since the club were relegated to the Barclays Women’s Championship.
