Southampton sign former Leicester City midfielder Palmer

Southampton have completed the signing of former Leicester City midfielder Aimee Palmer on a free transfer.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Saints a short time ago.

Palmer joins Southampton after leaving former club Leicester City at the end of last season. The 24-year-old spent one season with The Foxes in which she made seven appearances for the club in the Barclays Women’s Super League, scoring one goal.

The midfielder has also turned out for Bristol City (twice), Manchester United and Sheffield United in her career to date.

Palmer has twice won the Barclays Women’s Championship title and she will now be hoping to achieve the feat again with new club Southampton.

After joining The Saints, Palmer said “I’m really excited to finally get it over the line, I’m really happy to be here and I can’t wait to get the boots on and get started.

“Towards the end of the previous season, I said to my agent ‘it’s Southampton or no-one if I’m coming down to the [Championship]’. It’s been a club I’ve always admired how they play, so I’m excited to get going.”

Palmer becomes Southampton’s sixth summer signing.
