Former Manchester United forward Maria Edwards has joined Blackburn Rovers on a free transfer.
The Lancashire club announced the news via a post on their official club X account this afternoon.
Edwards joins Blackburn Rovers off the back of a spell playing in the German Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga with SGS Essen. The 21-year-old made 20 league appearances in her 18-month spell with SGS Essen, scoring one goal.
The youngster came through the academy system at former club Manchester United. She represented The Red Devils at Under-21 level but struggled to force her way into the first team picture. Edwards is a familiar face to fans of new club Blackburn Rovers. She spent the 2020/2021 campaign with the club during a loan spell from Manchester United. Edwards made 16 appearances for Blackburn Rovers in all competitions in which she netted two goals. The forward had a positive experience from her previous spell at Ewood Park and she will be hoping to now make a greater impact after sealing her return to the club.
Edwards is Blackburn Rovers’ fourth signing of the summer transfer window. Head coach Simon Parker looks set to have a more youthful group to work with this season with the club having targeted young players so far this summer.
