Crystal Palace sign Dutch forward Weerden

Crystal Palace have completed the signing of Dutch forward Ashleigh Weerden.

The Eagles announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Weerden joins Crystal Palace off the back of a two-year spell with Dutch Azerion Vrouwen Eredivisie club Ajax. The 25-year-old won the league title and the KNVB Beker Cup during her time with The Daughters of the Gods while she also represented the club in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The forward has also turned out for FC Twente and Montpellier HSC in her senior playing career to date.

On the international stage, Weerden has been capped by The Netherlands on three occasions, although she has been out of the picture for the senior national team for a few years.

After joining Crystal Palace, Weerden said “I’m really excited. This will be my first time playing in England and I think it’s one of the best, or maybe the best, leagues in the world, so I am excited that I can be part of the club.

“I’m really excited for this project and I think I can help the team to build on their ambition. I’m really glad I can be a part of this team.”

Weerden is Crystal Palace’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window.
