Aston Villa have revealed the news that goalkeeper Anna Leat has left the club.
The Villans announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.
Aston Villa signed Leat in summer 2022 after the player opted to leave former club West Ham United. The 23-year-old New Zealand international keeper has gone on to make 14 appearances for The Villans in the Barclays Women’s Super League in which she has kept three clean sheets. Leat has provided some strong competition for the first-choice goalkeeper’s jersey, helping to push the standards high.
Ahead of Aston Villa’s return to action following the Christmas break, the club have revealed the news that Leat has opted to leave the club. The player wanted to move closer to her family and the club have agreed to the mutual termination of her contract.
Leat’s departure now means that youngster Sophia Poor is in the position of second-choice goalkeeper at Aston Villa. Given Poor’s lack of experience, the club could move to add another goalkeeper to their squad before the transfer window closes later this month.
Aston Villa are next in action when they face Bristol Rovers in an Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie at The Poundland Bescot Stadium this evening.
