Arsenal loanee Chloe Kelly has received a late call-up into the England squad after the Lionesses were hit with some withdrawals.
WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official press release from The Football Association this afternoon.
It has been reported that Arsenal pair Beth Mead and Lotte Wubben-Moy have pulled out of the latest England squad due to injury and Lionesses boss Sarina Wiegman has turned to The Gunners’ on-loan attacker Kelly and Aston Villa defender Lucy Parker to fill the void left by the absentees.
Kelly initially missed out on selection for England’s UEFA Women’s Nations League fixtures against Portugal and Spain due to a lack of playing minutes at club level. The player recently joined Arsenal on-loan from Manchester City in a bid to get regular football under her belt and to push her international claims. Kelly made her Arsenal debut in Sunday’s 5-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
The player now has the opportunity to impress national team boss Wiegman once again in the upcoming international window. Wiegman has left the door open for Kelly to claim a place in the England squad for this summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO.
England kick-off their UEFA Women’s Nations League campaign with a fixture against Portugal in Portimão on Friday before playing host to Spain at Wembley next Wednesday.
