Bristol City sign former Birmingham City defender Lawley

Bristol City have completed the signing of former Birmingham City defender Gemma Lawley on a free transfer.

The Robins announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening.

The 22-year-old centre-back moves to Ashton Gate following the conclusion of her contract with former club Birmingham City earlier this summer. Lawley has signed a two-year deal with Bristol City.

Lawley came through the youth ranks at Birmingham City before going on to establish herself in the senior side. The player has featured for the Blues on a regular basis in recent seasons. She was a member of the team that narrowly missed out on the Barclays WSL2 title on the final day of last season.

The defender has built experience at Barclays WSL2 level and she will be looking to develop further at new club Bristol City.

After joining The Robins, Lawley said “Bristol City is a very ambitious club and having Ashton Gate as our home ground is a massive selling point.

“It’s a great stadium to play at and hopefully, it can be filled out as much as possible with Bristol City fans and I can’t wait to meet them all.

“It’s been a long off-season, but I feel like I have prepared very well and I can’t wait to get started.”

Lawley is Bristol City’s second signing of the summer transfer window.
