Liverpool keeper Borggräfe loaned to Bayer Leverkusen

Liverpool goalkeeper Rafaela Borggräfe has joined German Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga club Bayer 04 Leverkusen on a loan deal for the remainder of the season.

The Reds announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

The 25-year-old stopper returns home to her native Germany in a bid to get some games under her belt following a recent ban.

Borggräfe joined Liverpool from German Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga club SC Freiburg last summer. She has gone on to make four appearances for The Reds in all competitions. Borggräfe recently served a six-match suspension which was issued by The Football Association following an incident which happened during Liverpool’s pre-season programme. The club have dealt with the issue internally and have moved on.

Liverpool have already strengthened their goalkeeping ranks during this month’s transfer window. The Reds signed Swedish international keeper Jennifer Falk on a loan deal from OBOS Damallsvenskan club BK Häcken until the end of the season. Falk has made an impressive start to life on Merseyside and with Liverpool having Rachael Laws also competing for the first choice jersey, opportunities for Borggräfe would have been limited.

Liverpool are next in Barclays Women’s Super League action when they face Aston Villa in St Helens on Sunday afternoon.
