Reading v Manchester United – Stat Attack

Manchester United will hope to kick on with their push for European qualification in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League when they travel to the Select Car Leasing Stadium to face Reading this morning.

The Red Devils currently occupy third place but they continue to be put under pressure by fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur and fifth-placed Manchester City.

Ahead of this morning’s fixture, FAWSL Full-Time have analysed the match statistics from Opta and here are four facts which relate to Reading’s meeting with Manchester United.

Manchester United remain unbeaten at Reading

Manchester United have never lost away at Reading in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League in their two previous visits (W1 D1). They were 2-1 winners in Berkshire last season with Leah Galton and Hayley Ladd on target for The Red Devils.

Reading’s struggles against Manchester United continue

Reading have won just one of their five Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches against Manchester United (D1 L3), that victory coming in the away fixture last season. The Royals’ poor record against The Red Devils continued this season with a 2-0 defeat at The Leigh Sports Village on opening day.

Martha Thomas is a threat to Reading

Forward Martha Thomas has scored more Barclays FA Women’s Super League goals against Reading (3) than any other opponent, with all three coming in the same game for former club West Ham United in April last year. She remains the first and only Scotswoman to net a hat-trick in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

Russo still needs to tick Reading off

Manchester United’s Alessia Russo has been involved in 13 goals in 19 Barclays FA Women’s Super League appearances (9 goals, 4 assists), although Reading are one of three teams that she’s faced and not scored against, along with Aston Villa and Everton.

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Reading and Manchester United kicks-off at 11.30am.
