Blackburn Rovers forward Rhema Lord-Mears has joined FA Women’s Championship rivals Sheffield United according to reports on The Blades’ official website.
The 25-year-old is well-known by The Blades manager Carla Ward with the pair having played in the same team at former second tier club Sheffield FC.
Sheffield United announced the deal this afternoon with the length of Lord-Mears’ contract at the South Yorkshire club left undisclosed.
Despite forward being her favoured position, Lord-Mears is able to play behind the striker or sit in midfield. The player made 10 appearances for former club Blackburn Rovers during the first half of the season while she contributed two assists after primarily being fielded in a midfield role.
Lord-Mears is expected to be a member of the Sheffield United squad who will take on Aston Villa at the Proact Stadium on Sunday. The Blades face the current league leaders in a mouth-watering fixture which could play a big part in the club’s promotion this season.
Villa currently lead The Blades by three points, however, Ward’s side can go top with victory courtesy of their superior goal difference. Aston Villa defeated Sheffield United 3-2 in their opening match of the FA Women’s Championship season while they have also beaten The Blades in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup.
