Welcome to this week’s update from Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club.
Let me start by raising a cup of fine English tea to the USA who retained their FIFA Women’s World Cup winners’ title on Sunday. In my opinion, they were the best team in the competition and deserved winners.
Our supporters’ club was again well-represented at the final in Lyon as a number of members were there for the historic occasion. We have had some football crazy members who have been out in France for the whole tournament and they have had the time of their lives. Hats off to Jude, Caz and Leanne who have travelled thousands of miles in attending 14 games and they have represented our group with style and pride.
Now that the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 has come to an end, we turn our attentions to the forthcoming FA Women’s Super League season. After the announcements that City will face our red neighbours at home in the first game and that the match will be played at the Etihad Stadium, we ran a poll to gauge members’ reactions to this. The result was a 50-50 split with many fans voicing concerns over the matter. Would it have been better to play to a full Academy Stadium? Maybe, but now the decision has been made and we will get behind our girls as they write a new chapter to our history.
Tickets are available to buy online on the Manchester City website. There are great deals for up to three children to attend the match free of charge and we strongly recommend City fans who are new to the women’s game to give this one a go as it promises to be a cracker.
See you all again next week when we should have our full fixture lists for the new season.
